Hinged Locket
Medallions are usually given to loved ones on holidays such as Valentine's Day and occasions such as baptisms, weddings and, most notably during the Victorian era, at funerals. Historically, they have often been opened to reveal a portrait miniature.
Movable joints - Lockets, introduces new techniques in jewelry metal clay such as the creation of pieces with a closing system and movable joints (hinges) as well as gold applications using paste 22k gold but also welding.
This course is recommended for students who have attended Introduction to Jewelry Metal Clay – Intensive
IN-DEPTH TECHNIQUES
- Correct measurement of parts of the part for a sealed closure
- Correct calculation of joints before burning
- Texture of the inner outer part
- Creating the tube for articulation
- Measuring and welding tubes
- Creation of the closing system
- Sculpting the clay parts to create the lacy effect, with a view inside the locket
- Applying 24k Gold Paste
- Burning of the golden paste
- Finishing and antiquing the piece

Corina Gheorghe is the founder and main instructor of ARTKIMIA - Art & Jewelry Studio (Metal Clay). She is known internationally as an artist and teacher specializing in metal clay and mixed jewelry. Corina has taught courses in various countries such as Spain, Belgium, Great Britain, USA and is a Board member of the worldwide organization AMCAW (Alliance for Metal Clay Arts Worldwide). She is the first Art Clay Certified Instructor in Romania and the one who introduced this brand, as well as the term "metal clay" in Romanian workshops.
