The history of this technique takes us back to the Edo period of Japan (1603-1868), where samurai were the symbol of authority and strength. The Mokume-Gane technique, which literally translates to "precious wood fiber," was originally used to create intricately patterned wood fiber effects. These effects were mainly used to decorate samurai swords and to create ornamental objects that reflected the wealth and sophistication of these samurai warriors.
Today, Mokume-Gane in the version from Metal Clay it gives us an amazing way to recreate these complex and beautiful designs in a more accessible environment and without requiring the intensive use of fire. With the help of metal clay, we can obtain the same models of precious wood, but transformed into jewelry.
In this course, you will learn essential techniques to create stunning Mokume-Gane models with metal clay, using various layering, texturing and finishing methods. We will explore how to choose the right metals and proportions to achieve the desired contrast in the design of your rings and how to shape them to create truly unique jewelry. We'll also cover all the steps necessary to turn molded designs into finished jewelry, including the correct firing process and finishing.
